CETL Exam

Why Get Certified?

For K-12 education technology leaders, earning the CETL certification will demonstrate to your staff, superintendent, and other stakeholders that you have mastered the knowledge and skills needed to define the vision for and successfully build 21st century learning environments in your school district. Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree plus four years of education technology experience. More information on the benefits of CETL Certification is available here.

Wisconsin DPI supports the CoSN CETL® Certification Exam to build digital leadership capacity and support local district leadership teams. For more information on this support please visit: https://dpi.wi.gov/imt/licensure

The CETL certification process is the best professional development for school technology leaders. The framework really applies to the real job and covered everything I actually need to be a school technology leader. There is a very good balance between technical knowledge, management skills and K-12 educational concepts. The CETL certification can help technical IT staff learn about management and educational programs and also helps educators learn more about the technical IT concepts. I couldn’t imagine doing my job effectively as a technology director  without this training.

Director of Technology, Stevens Point Area Public School District

Completing the CETL process gave me a chance to affirm where I was strong, and gave me a chance to grow in areas that I use less often. I would recommend completing the CETL process to anyone who wants to grow in their professional role as a Educational Technology Leader.

Exam Preparation

WETL has developed a local study group to prepare WI Educational Technology Leaders for the CETL exam. This program will be offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall to prepare for exams that will happen in conjunction with SLATE and WisNet’s Connection conference. This study group is a collaborative partnership with WETL, DPI, and business partners. If you successfully complete the prep course and the exam, your expenses will be reimbursed through this partnership. This study group will be facilitated by a current CETL and will feature many other CETL recipients to prepare you to become a Certified Educational Technology Leader.

The fall study group has been cancelled. We are working on dates for a Spring Cohort.  A CETL Exam opportunity will be offered  at SLATE Conference in Wisconsin Dells.  To sign up for this group, please complete the registration form
